那么，你肯定要问glass ceiling effect 是什么呢？

今天，我们就来讲一讲这个老生常谈的职场话题。

A glass ceiling is a metaphor used to represent an invisible barrier that keeps a given demographic (typically applied to minorities) from rising beyond a certain level in a hierarchy.

玻璃天花板是指在公司、企业和机关、团体中对某些群体（如女性、少数族裔）晋升到高级职位或决策层的潜在限制或障碍。

比如，美国虽然很发达，但还没有女性能成为该国总统。

所以，2016年希拉里竞选的时候，就说美国女性在政坛就遭受 glass ceiling effect 的影响，并呼吁女性要努力打破这一障碍。

所以，所谓的玻璃天花板效应，是指有些障碍如玻璃一样，虽然不会明文规定，但却是实实在在的存在，以至于在职场中某些人群被无形限制。

另外，与此相似的，还有玻璃地板（glass floor）一词。

它是指某些群体在地位降低过程中的障碍。

比如因为对女性的刻板印象，在减少她们相对男性升任公司总裁及高阶主管机会的同时，也减少了她们失业、过度劳动、落入地位低下的矿工、囚犯等处境的几率。
