Agent = ag-（做，行动，来自拉丁语agere）+ -ent（名词词尾），行动的人，引申词义为“代理人、代理商”，在商务英语中，agent英文解释为 a representative who acts on behalf of other persons or organizations（代表其他人或组织行事的代表），即“中介；代理商”。

常见的agent代理人有sales agent销售代理商、sole agent独家经营商、travel agent旅行社、general agent总代理人、estate agent房地产经纪人、business agent业务代表、insurance agent保险代理人。

代理商（Agency）又称商务代理（Business Agency），是在其行业管理范围内接受他人委托，为他人促成或缔结交易的一般代理人。委托人一般会支付相应佣金（commission）给代理人作为报酬。
