街头抗议未影响香港消费者信心

Hong Kongers are feeling upbeat as a tumultuous year for the territory draws to a close, according to a new consumer confidence index launched today.

The ANZ-Roy Morgan Hong Kong Consumer Confidence Index rose 2.7 points to 131.2 in November, reversing a drop in October during sweeping pro-democracy protests.

11月,澳新-罗伊•摩根香港消费者信心指数(ANZ-Roy Morgan Hong Kong Consumer Confidence Index)上升了2.7点,达到131.2点,逆转了10月民主抗议活动冲击全港期间的跌势。

The survey said 38 per cent of respondents say their families are better off financiAlly than the same period last year, while 9 per cent say they are worse off - the lowest level since March according to the readings, which were kept private before the survey's first release. Almost half of the 1,000 people interviewed believe Hong Kong's relatively good financial situation will remain in the next year; 15 per cent think the economy will get worse.

Although the recent launch of the Shanghai-Hong Kong stock connect scheme did not wow, ANZ seems to take note of exhortations by Charles Li, chief executive of the Hong Kong stock exchange, to give it time:“After the negative impact of street protests on community sentiment, the launch of Shanghai-Hong Kong Stock Connect seems to have provided a timely reassurance in the outlook of households– particularly regarding their personal finances.”

虽然最近推出的沪港通计划并未取得辉煌成功,澳新银行(ANZ)似乎注意到了港交所首席执行官李小加让人们再等一段时间的告诫。该行表示:“在街头抗议活动对香港社会情绪的负面影响消除之后,沪港通的推出似乎为香港家庭的前景——尤其是个人财务前景——提供了及时保证。”

Nielsen already has a consumer confidence index for Hong Kong, but it's quarterly and doesn't tend to move markets. ANZ said it launched its monthly index to get a better sense of sentiment trends:

"Given that private consumption represents two thirds of Hong Kong's GDP, we need to gauge consumer confidence closely," says Raymond Yeung, senior economist at ANZ.

澳新银行资深经济学家杨宇霆(Raymond Yeung)表示:“考虑到香港GDP的三分之二来自私人消费,我们必须十分密切地考察消费者信心。”
