在商业新闻中，描述一种商品的时候，常常看到这样一个词：shelf life

那么，你知道它是什么意思吗？

从字面来理解，shelf life 就是“货架生命”，

而某种商品的“货架生命”，说白了就是该商品的“保质期、保存期限”，比如：

The meat is chemically treated to extend shelf life.

猪肉经过化学处理以延长保存期。

It's safe to eat foods that have been irradiated to prolong their shelf life. 

食用经过辐射杀菌处理、延长了保质期的食品是安全的。
