Speculator = specul-（来自拉丁语specere，看）+ -ator（名词词尾，人），即观察的人，思索的人，引申为“投机者、思索者”。买低卖高的寻利行为就是投机（speculation）。
商业领域里，常见的speculator有property speculator房地产投机商、real estate speculator炒房者、exchange speculator外汇投机者、international speculator国际投机商。
