台湾出台新规:转基因食品强制退出校园

Taiwan's legislature on Monday banned school canteens from using genetically modified (GM) food, such as vegetables or tofu.

台湾地区立法机构周一通过了一项学校卫生管理条例修正案，其中明确禁止学校餐厅使用转基因食材，比如转基因蔬菜和转基因豆腐。

The ban is part of a revision to a decree on school sanitation that covers canteens.

这项禁令也是对包括食堂卫生在内的学校卫生规定的部分修改。

In addition, an inspection will be led by the education, agriculture and health authorities every academic year to ensure schools and colleges adhere to the ruling, according to a statement issued by the legislature.

此外，由教育、农业和卫生主管机关牵头的卫生巡查组将在每学年访视，确保中小学学校和高等院校遵守该卫生条例。

The decree comes in light of increasing public concern about possible health risks of GM foods, said Lu Hsiu-yen, a legislator from the Kuomintang, the island's ruling party.

台湾执政党--国民党的一名立法委员卢秀燕表示，近来，公众对转基因食品可能引发的健康问题愈发担忧，该条例正是在这种情势下推行。

"For parents who are concerned about GM foods, the decree will set their minds at ease," Lu said.

卢秀燕说：“对那些一直关注转基因食品的父母来说，这项条例会使他们稍稍安心。”
